Dear Allies
If you are reading this, it is likely you have played a part Arizona's music and art scene. And maybe you're looking for a way to help preserve the history and help others participate that time you shared. Sunset Alliance has branched out to include an archival effort to map that history, and make it more available through Sunset Archive
It's likely that you can list a lot of moments and artists who have been overlooked. Please help us track down the recordings and images that are so valuable to fill the gaps in our history. Please do so by sending a message via our contact page.
Soon, you'll also be able to donate to the projects we are reviving. The Sunset Archive site will provide the details.
Our lens will always be focused on Arizona, but there are additional records that deserve their flowers. Send us ideas and files. We will archive what we can.
Some of our previous efforts:
1999 - Not One Light Red: A Modified Document (A compilation in support of the bands and arts who performed and showed their work at Kimber Lanning's iconic Modified art house.
2001 - The Player Piano self-titled and Satellite (CD released both in the US and Japan, after the band's split.) Now a vinyl release is being considered in 2027!
2002 - Half Visconte Was It Fear (CD released after the dissolution of what was widely considered one of the best bands in Arizona's history. Recordings otherwise unavailable. As with the other releases on this list, completed with no profit motive.)
2004 - Americopa Mantle Volume I (Unique release of songs, all recorded at the original Flying Blanket studio, sonically married, documenting some of the best bands of the early to mid 00's.)
2009 - Before Braille Kill The Messenger Keep the Message and Spring Cleaning (Released 4 years after the band's disunion.)
2014 - Novi Split - Keep Moving Disk 2 (We still don't know how we found these songs. Something about stolen laptop and an unseen, unknowable power that retrieved lost files from David Jerkovich's humble and beloved Keep Moving sessions.)
2019 - Umbrella I & II (Maybe our greatest achievement: With the help of producers Andrew Belcher and David Jerkovich, we put a lovely spit shine to the two high school EPs that had gone extinct. A band of 4 under appreciated teenagers got their due respect.)
2023 - Beninem Autistic Flow (Tug-at-your-heartstrings project where David Jensen teamed up with Ben Shill, from his 'hospital bed' to finally release an album nearly 20 years in the making! An intimate hip-hop collection for one of the godfathers of the 480, and the finest autistic lyricist in history.)
2026 - Now, with the launch of Sunset Archive we have an announcement we will make very soon. We are so excited to finally offer a way for our allies to contribute in a more durable and abiding way!
This is a call to our community.
We are now seeking the whereabouts of any recordings by the band Sound Of Sirens. We wish to remaster and release in cooperation with the members of the band, should we be able to find them! We need your help!
In addition to this call:
We are also seeking Website, Promo and Design specialists to help us expand our efforts. Even if you just know your way around Reddit, or like talking on the phone, we want you. And because social media is not our favorite place to be, please just email/msg us. Put the word "Archive" near the top of your message, and we will lock on, and lock in! THX
